Feeling Gloomy presents: These Are People Who Died
March 25 @ 11:00 pm - March 26 @ 4:00 am$6
We’ve all learned a hard lesson of late: time has a way of killing your idols, and recently some have hit too close to home. We’ve celebrated the passings of Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen + George Michael recently, but they’re mere drops in a bucketful of tears for every teenaged idol that has shuffled off this mortal coil.
So, we decided to dedicate a night to all of them. Not only the recent passings, but so many Gloomy favorites that have died over the years, some before we were even born. Ian Curtis, Marc Bolan, Joe Strummer, Freddie Mercury, Phil Lynott, Michael Hutchence, and yes, Jim Carroll from whom we got the title for this party.
For one night, we’ll commune with the spirits of the dead, we’ll dance to their songs, we’ll impart them for guidance, we’ll ask them if that stranger is a kindred spirit, we’ll take the advice of their words in life.
TWO WORLDS COLLIDED
Reach out and touch your favorite idol with our Ouija board station. Or just pose for some Instagram shots like those awful kids at the Holocaust museum.
THE SWEET EMBRACE OF CAKE
Our master baker will be producing a prodigiously respectful cake from which we will take mournful mouthfuls in memorium of those who passed before us.
This is a somber occasion, at a minimum be sure to wear black. We’re encouraging everyone to dress up as your favorite dead celebrity, and we’ll be having a costume contest to find out who wore it best: you or the pale specter you are channeling.
DEAD MAN’S PARTY
Your gloomy hosts Gordon and Nathaniel Gloom will provide the most appropriate music for such an occasion: songs by our beloved deceased idols, songs about dying, songs about wishing you were dead, and songs about standing at the pearly gates striving to convince St. Peter to swipe right.
ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST
To boot, this will be our first Gloomy at a new space in Bushwick underneath the Cape House and we’re super excited to show you what we’ve been cooking up for the last few weeks. Plus we’re going to decorate the place so that it puts the fun in funeral home.
