Burn the Book: Music Video Premiere + Readings and Performances
Apr 19, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm$5
On Thursday, April 19th, please join us at the beautiful Brooklyn Art Library in Williamsburg for a very special evening of celebrating THE BURN THE BOOK PROJECT. There will be a music video premiere, readings, live music, mingling, and more!
This project spotlights strong and diverse women and their personal journeys in finding their voices despite external pressures. By illuminating these experiences, each of these women has contributed to burning the proverbial rulebook, or the understood set of rules that women are often expected to follow. Inspired by Caitlin Mahoney’s empowering song of the same name, Caitlin and HIP Lit collaborated to feature an extraordinary cast of female writers — Patricia Park, Kyle Lucia Wu, Hannah Lillith Assadi, and Jenny Williamson — in the song’s music video.
Each of the featured readers will share their original essays, specifically written for this project. These powerful pieces will be compiled in a sketchbook to be housed in the Brooklyn Art Library’s archive, where it will be a part of a worldwide community of creative people.
We couldn’t be more excited to debut these essays, the sketchbook, and the music video in this live, intimate event. Grab a match, and share your story! #BurntheBook
ADMISSION: Suggested $5 donation, but pay what you can! All proceeds from the event will go to She Should Run, a non-profit dedicated to increasing the number of women in public leadership. Reserve your seats through Artery now: bit.ly/2GGGd5Z.
