Don’t worry, you won’t need a swimsuit, or more accurately a biohazard suit, to dive into Gowanus this Friday. Instead, bring an appetite, some cash, and a willingness to drink a lot in order to support the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, when restaurants around the neighborhood show their support with Dive in Gowanus.
Now in its second year, August 15’s Dive in Gowanus celebrates the neighborhood’s food and bar scene while raising money for the GCC. Proceeds from the evening will benefits the STEM-Education Program, a Composting Program, and GCC’s Clean & Green Volunteer Program.
And while we know you care about keeping our waterways clean, what’s more important is good deals– what’s a fundraiser without benefits for us? Beyond a percentage of the proceeds from the participating restaurants going towards the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, some bars and restaurants running deals that benefit your wallet and the GCC.
Mile End Deli (97 Hoyt St) will offer $1 off all local beers and $5 “dirty water dogs,” The Pines (284 Third Ave) will serve up their special $9 Gowanus Gator cocktails (Greenhook gin, cucumber, mint, and lime) and donate 50% of proceeds from the drink to GCC’s environmental programming, Runner & Stone (285 Third Ave) will be serving a special Gowanus Footlong– a fried oyster sandwich! And while it’s not a Dive in Gowanus special, you may as well bring your Beer Book and stop by Littleneck (288 Third Ave) for their $1 oysters from 5pm-7pm.
To see what’s going on throughout the evening, use #DiveinGowanus to avoid any serious FOMO.
