Cool job alert: ‘Brooklynification’ web series needs actors

BRIC TV’s “comedy web series for cable TV and digital network” Brooklynification is casting, and what better way to make some cash to put towards rent then star in a show dedicated to borough struggles? The only way you could get more meta is if you played a character who’s making their rent by acting in a local web series when you yourself are doing the same thing in non-fictionalized reality.

The show takes on the obvious, if tense, themes of the Brooklyn experience – “class and race interactions in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood”, crazed brokers, natives vs. transplants, loud downstairs neighbors. This isn’t Girls, it’s a much more down to earth, self-aware look at Brooklyn through the eyes not of Lena Dunham but BRIC, the borough’s biggest provider of free cultural programming and an organization with genuinely local roots and messages.

BRIC is looking to cast six individuals for a mix of lead and supporting roles for men and women. The character descriptions range from “school principal” to “former actress” and “bar patron”. They are largely seeking African American actors, but there are roles open to every ethnicity as well.

Auditions are next week, Wednesday through Friday June 28, 29 and 30 by appointment. The show will be shooting late July through early August on location in Brooklyn. Required media includes a headshot and video reel.

The released episodes from last year’s first season are on YouTube and, coming in at around 10 minutes each, highly binge-able.
