Celebrate six months in one dress with the Uniform Project

One dress, 365 ways: Sheena Matheiken models four looks from the Uniform Project's fashion experiment.

This week, you have two ways to help others while benefiting your own social life, look and living room.

Tip number 1: a funky-fun fashion benefit tomorrow, November 7 in Williamsburg. If you’re digging out your fall clothes and think you’ve got nothing to wear? Try having only one thing to wear—all year The Uniform Project, the work of Brooklyn-based designers Sheena Matheiken and Eliza Starbuck, takes on the challenge of wearing the same little black dress every day for a year as a way to raise funds for schools in India’s poorest areas. Each day, they post photos of Sheena in the short-sleeved cotton mini-dress accessorized with vintage, hand-made and hand-me-down hats, scarves and the like. (The tights alone!) The project celebrates six months of frugal style tomorrow from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at The Blowup Location in Williamsburg.

The $25 event tickets benefit the Akanksha Foundation, which provides school uniforms and other educational materials to children living in India’s slums. Get party details here (a prize for the best accessory!) and six months of clever outfit ideas here.

And next week, there’s a food-drive at CB2 (the younger, hipper version of Crate & Barrel) where you can parlay canned foods into big discounts on new furniture. Starting next week, get 15 percent off any one shopping trip to CB2 by bringing five non-perishable food items to the SoHo store. Five unexpired cans of tuna could be well worth $150 off a low-slung modern sofa or $60 off a dining table. Or buy them both in one trip. Save another $2.25 in subway fare by walking to the store via the Brooklyn Bridge. The food drive, which runs Nov. 9 to 25, benefits City Harvest.
