To the well-read, sophisticated-but-down-to-earth fans of Amy Sherman-Palladino’s Gilmore Girls (and the late, lamented Bunheads), any imagined encounter with the creator has probably played out like a scene from one of her shows: quick, quippy, punny, funny and well, sophisticated. Coffee is involved, obviously, and everyone is maybe eating Ding Dongs together while saying funny words like “Oy” and tossing off references to W. Somerset Maugham. Well, this Thursday at the Bell House you can see if life is really like a television show, when Sherman-Palladino is interviewed and honored by the podcast Employee Of The Month.
Sherman-Palladino will be joined by other badasses like screenwriter Danny Strong (Recount, Mad Men), stylist Mel Ottenberg, and singer Diane Birch. Host Catie Lazarus is quite the smart and funny lady herself, and the podcast has been starred as a Time Out New York Critic’s Pick. Tickets are only $10 in advance, and $15 at the door. Maybe if you’re lucky, the interviewees will hang around for cocktails after, and you can pester the creator with what you thought of Logan in Season 6, or how Luke is, like, the coolest personification of manhood since Davey Crockett fell in battle at the Alamo. She might like the reference. Or maybe she won’t. But maybe.
Employee of the Month, Thursday, November 14, 8pm, The Bell House, 149 7th Street, $10 advance/$15 at the door
