Snag free books by Irish authors on St. Patrick’s Day

Flann O’Brien will be there. Well, his books will be there.

Whether you’re the kind of person who’s going to grit his teeth and just try to get through St. Patrick’s Day or you’re the kind of person who’s going to put on green and go to all of the bars on the Grand Street pub crawl, there’s one thing both of you fictional archetypes can agree on: free books are good. The Irish Arts Center agrees with you on that one, and so to promote Irish culture and remind people that the holiday isn’t only about Americans drunkenly singing “Danny Boy” and cursing the vile English, they’re going to have volunteers stationed around the city to give you free classics of Irish literature.

Tuesday, March 17, from 7am until there are no more books to give out, volunteers from the Irish Arts Center are going to be shoving books into the hands of strangers at locations around the city. You’ll be able to get a book if your commute from Brooklyn starts at the following places: the corner of 36th Street and 4th Avenue on the B,D, N and R trains, the Nassau Avenue G stop and Atlantic Terminal.

If you see the IAC volunteers, you can be lucky enough to snag a book by the likes of James Joyce, Maeve Binchy, Oliver Wilde, Jimmy Breslin, Aubrey Flegg and a slew of author important and famous authors. We guess this means Tuesday is now a good day to forget your subway reading.
