New BK volunteering site wants you to ‘Do Good Right Here’

Volunteering for things would be so much easier if there wasn’t so much damn work involved, amiright?? The Brooklyn Community Foundation is taking some of the work out of finding volunteer work with its brand-new site Do Good Right Here, which gives the Seamless treatment to finding a volunteer opportunity that fits for you. You can sort by field of interest (arts, education, green communities, etc), search by keywords or look at a list of one-time events (stuff like the Mermaid Parade and Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls). Opportunities listed right now include a no-kill animal shelter, free kayaking and beach cleanup in Red Hook, Botanic Garden tree programs, farmers markets, tutors, food pantry aids and much much more. Plus, you can track the hours you’ve volunteered to see how much good you really do.

As a bonus, the Foundation is holding an event at Brooklyn Industries in Dumbo tomorrow: from 7-9, Brooklyn Industries will donate a percentage of sales to support the volunteer initiative. There will be Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee and Brooklyn Salsa too!
