Now hiring in Brooklyn: MOFAD, Kickstarter, Brooklyn Winery + more

With all the leaves changing outside, you’ve probably feeling the need for a little change yourself. And why not? Whether you’ve been stuck in a dead-end job for months, or you’re just craving a major change of pace, you deserve to enjoy what you do every day. Brokelyn is here to remind you that there’s no shame in wanting to quit the job you have, so long as you have an idea of what you might like to do next.

And while we can’t promise you’ll get a new job, we can certainly take the effort out of searching the annals of the internet. Here are five Brooklyn jobs that are hiring for all kinds of professionals, from creative to corporate souls (everyone’s gotta eat).  

First up is a real chance to put your love of food to good use: The Museum of Food and Design (MOFAD) is looking for a Development Manager to oversee their fundraising. It’s a full-time, 50k salaried (with benefits!) position that begins as soon as possible. You’ll work with the museum’s Executive Director to make budgets, strategies and timelines for the growth, manage the salesforce, and help to plan museum events. “Simply put,” sez the ad, “this is an opportunity to play a critical role in the founding of New York City’s next great cultural institution.” 3+ years in nonprofit fundraising is required, as well as a familiarity with NYC’s fundraising landscape.

If you’re looking for creative direction, consider this full-time Head of Film position with everyone’s favorite crowd-funding platform, Kickstarter. Under the aegis of Kickstarter’s community outreach team, you’ll work at the company’s glamorous office in Greenpoint (seriously, have you seen their kitchen?) to “develop, lead, and execute Kickstarter’s strategic vision for our film category,” inspiring filmmakers to share their work on Kickstarter and establishing their brand in film circles.

Lots of shoulder-rubbing and hobnobbing in this one, and experience is a biggie: 10-15 years in the film world required, with at least five of those years spent in a leadership position. But benefits are sweeeet: stock options, full health, dental and vision coverage, a 401k contribution and VIP perks at all kinds of events because it’s Kickstarter. Apply using this form.

More of a night owl in Brooklyn? Make bank after dark at The Bell House with this part-time Shift Manager position. The Gowanus music and comedy venue is looking for an experiences manager to oversee “all aspects” of nightly activities, which range from concerts to comedy shows to dance parties to weddings. “Most nights of the week you will be in charge of ensuring performers and patrons have a great experience, in addition to managing the staff and the stage.” Sounds pretty great.

For this position you need 2+ years in hospitality and management, the ability to be cool under pressure, some familiarity with Google apps and fluency in Microsoft Excel. Two shifts per week to start at $20/hr. It may not get you that 401k, but you’ll get to meet local and bigger-than-local celebs on the regular, which is kind of like “benefits,” at least for people under 40. Apply via Craigslist.

For all our media friends out there, here’s a pretty goodie: Metro, the daily free newspaper with millions of eyeballs on it at all times, is hiring a Features Writer for their Education and Career sections. They’re looking for someone to “breathe new life” into the topics by churning out two to three engaging, informative stories per week. The newspaper’s offices are in Manhattan, FYI, but it’d be pretty worth it for the exposure this widely read paper gets you. Plus, Brokelyn managing editor emeritus Kate Mooney will be your officemate! Last up, something for your inner lush: Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Winery is hiring an Event Sales Manager to manage bookings, clients and wedding inquiries. The gig sounds pretty corporate but hey, that business degree is good for something, and at least you’ll be representing something you believe in: alcohol. Affability and flexibility are a must, since you’ll be doing 35-40 client walk-throughs per month and doing them outside business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). 4+ years in sales required Apply here.
