Brooklyn Bridge Park, with its great views, expansive lawn, and great movies and dance parties was already awesome enough, so it’s easy to forget that it’s still a park under construction. But on Saturday, the park will take another step to its ultimate form when the Pier 3 and Pier 4 uplands areas of the park are officially opened to the public. And there’s a party to celebrate that, because everyone loves a park.
As can be seen by the map here, the Pier 3 and Pier 4 expansions leave only a handful of the park yet to be constructed, with Pier 2 scheduled for this year as well. With these additional 6 acres in the park, you’ll be able to walk along from Pier 1 to Pier 6 without ever having left the park, and can even make it to Empire-Fulton Ferry on one stroll. The uplands also have lawns of their own, along with a granite terrace and the park’s first sound reducing hills
But about that party. The uplands open officially on Saturday, Novemember 16 at 10am. There’s going to be your usual ribbon-cutting and back slapping and glad handing that any political event has, but on the other hand, there’s going to be a performance by the Hungry March Band and they’re always fun. So sure right now going to a park outside sounds absolutely crazy, but consider Saturday a chance to get a preview of your new spot to hang out when it warms up, and use that through the cold winter.
