Here’s your chance to spend your summer kayaking

Doesn’t this look like a good way to spend your summer? Via Facebook

Summer means sun, which also means boats. If you’re looking for a way to get out on the water when the temperatures reach sweat-stain level, look no further than the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse, a volunteer-run organization that provides free 20-minute kayak rides around the harbor off Pier 2 during the summer months. This year, the BBPB wants to add a whole new fleet of kayaks and they need volunteers who can help run the program. No experience required, and the perks are well worth the labor.

BBPB (and you, maybe) will be offering free kayak rides to folks of all ages starting June 6, all the way through Labor Day weekend. Hours are Saturdays 10am-3pm, and Thursdays 5:30pm-6:45pm. If they can wrangle enough volunteers, we’re told they’ll increase the hours.

This is not an unpaid internship. This is a no-bullshit volunteer gig with all the perks! In exchange for spending a few hours supervising in the sun—which already sounds like fun—volunteers get access to organized trips around the Harbor, free paddling classes, invites to social events and the pride of having a moral compass that points True North.

The BBPB is throwing a fundraiser on May 14 at Brooklyn Roasting (25 Jay Street), so if you want to learn more about the program that’ll be a great place to get acquainted. Instead of being grumpy about tax returns, go out and do something that will earn you karma points for the next time you need the universe to do you a solid.
