We knew the power-drinking, chain-smoking, secretary-harassing 60s would have to come to a bitter-sweet end eventually, but we also know we can’t let them go too peacefully. While our pilot for a disco spinoff of Mad Men hasn’t taken off yet, we supposed we’ll have to start saying goodbye to our favorite well-dressed, self-destructive advertisers. Here are some spots in Brooklyn (would they have even associated with this borough?) that will be screening Mad Men this Sunday at 10.
The Bell House
149 7th St (b/t 2nd and 3rd Ave), Gowanus
Slate‘s Julia Turner, John Swansburg, and a surprise guest will be at The Bell House to honor our final days with Don Draper & Co. Share theories of what you think’s about to go down before the show, and after drink like an ad executive at 11am while you watch it on a big screen. It’s all free with an RSVP, and if you’re a member of Slate Plus you can get in early for a happy hour and schmooze with the Slate writers.
Hanson Dry
925 Fulton Street (at Waverly Avenue), Clinton Hill
Of course the bar with a name like a cocktail would be showing the TV show that stars a bunch of cocktails. Not only is Hanson Dry playing the episodes on their big screen with the sound on, they’ve also got two great drink specials for you. For starters, you can sip $4 martinis from 9pm to 11pm on Sundays the show airs, which is insane. Plus, if you dress up in your finest Mad Men attire, they’ll give you a free shot of whiskey. Just remember that trying to drink all that like you’re Don Draper isn’t possible, because you are not Don Draper.
Videology
308 Bedford Ave (and S 1st), Williamsburg
Williamsburg is starting to look like a locale that would have appealed to the Pete Campbells of the world, making Videology (which probably wouldn’t have appealed to the Pete Campbells that much) a great choice for your reckless, glamorous Sunday night screening.
South 4th Bar
90 South 4th Street (corner of Berry Street), Williamsburg
Your bougie Williamsburg dreams aren’t limited to Videology: South 4th Bar is also showing Mad Men, and they too will have a heap of drink specials for you. South 4th will be offering four Sam Adams drafts for $5 and a specialty cocktail menu with drinks all under $10. They also have weekly raffles to win a free pitcher for beer, with a grand prize drawing, for a Weber grill, the day of the last episode.
Halyards
406 3rd Ave (and 6th St), Gowanus
Halyards is usually all about Game of Thrones, but they’ll be changing costumes slightly for Mad Men this Sunday. They’ll have swanky 60s cocktails so you can feel like you’re on the show, even if Gowanus is a slightly different setting from where Roger Sterling would have done his Sunday night cavorting. Then again, given his propensity to chase the dragon of youth, maybe Roger would be there nowadays.
The Monro
481 5th Ave (b/t 11th and 12th St), Park Slope
You’ll be able to find the usual $3 Bud Light special at this British pub, which we always thought should have been the drink of choice for the men of Sterling Cooper.
Soda Bar
629 Vanderbilt Ave (b/t St Mark’s and Prospect), Prospect Heights
See what’s bubbling for the last glorious days of the 60s with a screening at Soda Bar, but get there early: we’re told Mad Men fans here take their seats seriously.
The Graham
151 Meserole (and Graham Ave), Bushwick
See Mad Men on a not-so-old-timey projector in their back room and chain-snack on popcorn, the most glamorous we can think of after chain-smoking. When Game of Thrones premiers on April 12, they’ll start featuring double headers where you can devote yourself to your burning love for TV sagas.
BONUS: If your Mad Men excitement can’t be contained in just an episode, or just one borough, head to The Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria (36-01 35th Ave) for their ongoing exhibition Matthew Weiner’s Mad Men, featuring all the posh memorabilia your little heart could desire.
