Brokerlyn: Private bedrooms starting at $950/month in Bushwick

Photo via Common

What would you do for affordable rent? Would you submit your name to a lottery where your prospects are itty bitty; would you move to Montana, say goodbye to all this; would you troll Craigslist for hours on end as your hope dwindled to smaller than your budget? At least in terms of that last one, we can help somewhat, as we’ve done the grunt work for you and have plowed our rental service for the best deals we could find this week. Check em out.

________

Mmmm exposed brick
Crown Heights
$1,499/month
One-bedroom

Wow, this is really nice, at least based on the photos. Looks like a new development, or otherwise one that has been seriously gut renovated. No fee, hardwood floors, and apparently there are also original details…somewhere. The fridge has been hilariously exiled from the kitchen.

________

“Marvelous High-End Studio”
Flatbush
$1,295/month
Studio

Flatbush Gardens is not actually a “neighborhood”, as the listing alleges, but it is the type of development created with another era’s sense of community – there are courtyards, play areas and assumedly a lot of old timers who are rent stabilized (they’re the ones with the best stories). The apartment itself appears quaint.

________

Eastern Parkway life
Bed-Stuy
$1,499/month
Studio

The unit in this gorgeous prewar building looks recently redone. There’s an awkward random surface of sorts jutting into the living space, but hopefully that can be utilized as a shelf or repurposed into a lofted couch of sorts.

________

Splitsies means cheapsies
Bushwick
$950/month
Room in a four-bedroom

You’ll be inheriting three bedrooms worth of roommates, but apparently there’s two full baths and you’ll only be sharing your designated one with one other person. In unit laundry, A/C and roof access are no small plusses.

________

Rent this apartment and probably get a Vice byline out of the experience
Prospect Lefferts Gardens
$1,275/month
Coliving apartment

Experience a definitively 21st century living situation and benefit by having the experience under your belt and paying significantly cheaper rent than what you would in a more traditional area rental. All common space is shared, but bathrooms are typically shared with only “1-2 other people” so not bad.

________

You slay us, archways
Flatbush
$1,495/month
One-bedroom

The listing claims this is a “brand new” unit but they don’t make em like this no more, and it’s pretty clearly not of this millennia. The kitchen does look recently renovated, however, and while the counter space is limited the living area has a nice setup.

________

“Live in the treetops”
Kensington
$1,450/month
One-bedroom

Not the literal treetops, but a “charming attic” is as close as you’re going to get in Brooklyn. The slanted roofs give the space a homey feel, and the unit is just two blocks from the Ditmas Av. F train.

________

Such shiny floors!
Prospect Lefferts Gardens
$1,450/month
One-bedroom

This apartment is close to Prospect Park, pet friendly, and has such shiny hardwood floors you won’t ever want to leave.

________

All the cabinets
Crown Heights
$1,350/month
One-bedroom

Maybe, like the author, you are on the shorter side of things and struggle to reach high kitchen cabinets. It’s still nice to have a lot of them, though
