Broke-ing news: We’re hiring full-time editors!

Picture your face right in the middle of this handsome bunch.

Calling all wallet wizards, discount divas, saintly savers and kings of Kings County: Brokelyn wants you! We’re hiring full-time editors for the new year and we’re looking for people with the perfect mix of local knowledge, reporting skills, keen editing and writing flair to help carry Brokelyn into the future.

Are you someone who loves service journalism and telling real stories about the Brooklyn hustle? Do you have an aptitude for fostering new writers, breaking hot local scoops and taking the piss out of overpriced nonsense? Do you live in Brooklyn? If you checked yes to all of the above, we want to hear from you.

We’re looking for two full-time editors to start in January or early February. This is an excellent leadership opportunity for the right person to help carry on Brokelyn’s seven-year legacy of ass-kicking local service journalism and entertainment coverage and to grow the site.

Brokelyn alumni have gone on to jobs at The New York Times, The New York Post, Vice, New York Magazine, New York Observer, The Tonight Show and Gothamist among others. They’ve appeared on Broad City and Inside Amy Schumer and landed book deals. This, too, can be yours!

Not to mention that while you’re at it, you get to be part of one of the largest, chillest and scrappiest blogging staff teams in all of Kings County.

Qualifications:
-2+ years experience working in journalism, digital publication or a comparable editorial capacity
-1+ year working in a leadership capacity at one of the above
-Strong writing skills that maintain consistent tone and style when covering various topics
-Knowledge of Brooklyn culture, institutions and people
-Ability to work as part of a team
-Excellent time-management skills
-Self-starting attitude
-Sense of humor
-Natural curiosity, desire to tell stories
-Social media-savvy
-Knowledge of WordPress is a big plus
-Must live in Brooklyn
-Being social is also a big plus too: Not only is Brokelyn a team sport (as in, we like to hang out with each other), but we also value lots of different opinions and experiences from all over the borough. We want your unique experiences and observations of life out and about in Brooklyn to add to the site’s voice and coverage.

To apply
Send a resume to tim[at]brokelyn.com with the subject line: “Brokelyn editor position.” We hate cover letters too so don’t send one, just write a friendly email telling us a little bit about yourself, why you’d be a good editor for the site and what topics of expertise/coverage you’d bring to Brokelyn. Send your stuff now; we’ll start contacting people in the new year.

-Include links to your social media profiles (Twitter, Instagram, etc.) so we can get to know you better.
-Include five samples of your work that show a range of your writing style, digital savvy and/or ability to uncover unique issues.

Pay is based on experience; health insurance and other benefits available.
