The self-proclaimed “biggest & dopest indie, merengue, alternative, bachata, punk music festival in the world,” is back on Saturday, September 9th at The Paper Box (17 Meadow St.) in East Williamsburg. Bodega Island Fest, started back in summer 2015, is not too far from what would probably happen if you created an isolated island of bodegas. It’s a DIY punk-fest with a lineup of genre-bending Caribbean artists including headliners Maluca (watch her kill it dancing with beer can curlers in “El Tigeraso“) and merengue-trap artist Happy Colors.
Let’s be real, if there is an isolated land mass composed of bodegas out there somewhere, it’s probably in an East Williamsburg basement, and it’s probably full of dope, fringe, Caribbean EDM artists. Also, so many empty Arizona cans, more beer than tap water and enough chopped cheeses to constitute performance art.
Tickets for the one-day fest are available online for $28 to $32, with $8 off if you use discount code “brokelyn“. If you’re interested in joining the official promo team, you can earn free comps, drink tix and more, just email bodegaisland@gmail.com
Doors open at 9pm and the show starts at 10pm. Bodega Island Fest is 21+, sorry babies.
