Hmm…how does that old song go? “Just another manic Tuesday,” I think that’s it right? You too might find yourself with a manic Tuesday, because on the one hand you’re going to be down when you have to go to work. On the other hand, you can look forward to one of these fun things to do, as pulled off the Brokelyn Event Calendar, in order to dangerously and suddenly whip your Tueday into a more positive emotional state.
BUSHWICK BURLESQUE: 4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
What’s better than a regular birthday party? A burlesque birthday party! Bushwick Burlesque is celebrating “4 years of weird” with a huge lineup of strange almost-nude dancers with all sorts of gimmicks and all sorts of gyrations. Will there be cake? It doesn’t say, but we imagine if there is it’s gonna be a strange art cake.
9pm, Bizarre, 12 Jefferson Street, Bushwick,$7
SOUND OFF DRIVE-IN MOVIE NIGHT
Some movies just cry out for audience participation. Barbarella, the sexy yet nonsensical Jane Fonda vehicle from the 60s is one of them, so tonight it’s getting that treatment from B-movie maven Lola Rocknrolla and her friends World Famous BOB and Bastard Keith. Plus, since one movie isn’t enough, you can also see Lola’s sci-fi blaxploitation flick Nefertitty In Space, which is sure to be just as weird as Barbarella.
8pm, Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club, 514 Union Street, Gowanus, $7
THE PROSE BOWL
Ever feel like the usual readings you go to don’t have the crackling energy of desperate competition? Good news! At The Prose Bowl, writers compete in front of judges and you, the audience, to see who’s the best one of the night, all to win a free drink and what’s been termed “a doo-dad of infinite impracticability.” And if you want a doo-dad, you’ve got a chance to compete, because everyone who reads tonight will have their name picked out of a hat. Will it be your name? Maybe!
6:30pm, Pete’s Candy Store, 709 Lorimer Street, Williamsburg, FREE
JOHN BARTELSTONE’S BROOKLYN NAVY YARD
We’re fans of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and maybe you are too. If that’s the case, tonight is the night for you, because photographer John Bartlestone is taking you on a tour of the yard’s industrial areas that he had previously photographed for a book so you can marvel at the area’s changes over the years. Plus, you can take your own photos, so maybe you can come out with your own photography book of the Navy Yard.
6pm, BLDG 92, Brooklyn Navy Yard, $15
TRES BROOKLYN: A BROOKLYN BOOK FESTIVAL BOOKEND EVENT
For all the thirst that Brooklyn seems to inspire in Paris, it’s nice to see some Brooklyn writers looking across the water and getting some inspiration from the City of Lights that will maybe send clueless American tourists chasing a magical time there. So, join three writers for an evening of readings, mingling, raffle prizes, music and FREE BEER from Sixpoint, at this evening put together by Bushwick’s own H.I.P. Lit.
7pm, Electric Studios, 1298 Willoughby Street, Bushwick, FREE
