BK Top 5: The best things to do tonight, from a night with Emmy Blotnick to hailing Satan

It’s Monday, and it’s a big day. Not because you want to shoot yourself into the week with energy or because Alberto Del Rio returned to the WWE last night, but because this is the last day of the week before you should let baseball take over your life and watch the Mets in the World Series. Fortunately thanks to the Brokelyn Events Calendar, you’ve got some options as to what your one non-baseball watching night out should be.

WOMEN CHEFS OF NEW YORK BY NADIA ARUMUGAM
Chefing it up isn’t just a boys club in New York City, something Nadia Arumugam proves with Women Chefs of New York, a book of interviews with female chefs from hot restaurants in the city like Shalom Japan, The Good Fork and The Spotted Pig. Also relevant to your interests, tonight’s book launch party will feature FREE SAMPLES, so you can get away with only eating like half of a dinner on your own.
7pm, powerHouse Arena, 37 Main Street, DUMBO

GEORGE GRELLA: MILES DAVIS’ BITCHES BREW
Right around the time he was about to be passed by all the young people nipping at his heels, Miles Davis rediscovered and reshaped his cool by hitting the studio and recording the genre-busting Bitches Brew. Find out everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the seminal album, and maybe some ways you too can kick the young people in your life down a few pegs, as musician and critic George Grella presents his 33 1/3 series book.
7pm, Bookcourt, 136 Court Street, Cobble Hill, FREE

FRESH PERSPECTIVE 31: CORAL COMEUPPANCE
When you get a chance to Emmy Blotnick showing off her pearly whites or Old West comedy expert Lucas Gardner for free, you should take it. Sure they’re performing at a show that’s devoting itself to the fall agenda and its insidious light jackets, but but politics aside tonight and just get some laughs.
8:30pm, Muchmore’s, 2 Havemeyer Street, Williamsburg, FREE

STARR READING SERIES PRESENTS: THE WOODSTOVE
Love theater? Love appearing to be smart by showing up to see some theater? You’re covered either way tonight, because the Bushwick Starr is inviting you in for a free staging of The Woodstove, in which a woman on the run from the long arm of the law finds herself in an even worse situation when she holes up at a cabin in the woods.
8pm, The Bushwick Starr, 207 Starr Street, Bushwick, FREE

POP SHOVE IT
It’s getting close to Halloween, so it’s about time to get together with some folks and yell a good old fashioned “Hail Satan!” The best place to do that? Try tonight’s punk, garage rock and heavy metal party at Sycamore, as those are three musical genre which please Him greatly (and are also fun to listen to while drinking whiskey).
10pm, Sycamore, 1118 Cortelyou Road, Ditmas Park, FREE
