BK Top 5: The best things to do tonight, from a goodbye to Myrtle Comedy to yelling at a movie

Bye, Greg!
Bye, Greg!

Welcome to Thursday, or as I like to call it, “Workweek Friday.” It helps the week go by faster if you dumb names for the days of the week instead of what The Man wants you to call them. I could go over all the names with you, but I think it’s better use of both my time and yours to just present you with a bunch of fun things to do tonight on Workweek Friday Night, things found on the Brokelyn Event Calendar. It’s useful!

MYRTLE COMEDY
Nothing is fair in life, so one of our favorite weekly comedy shows is coming to a close. Well, rather than cry about it (right now anyway), we encourage you to get out there and laugh at jokes from Jo Firestone, Greg Johnson, Sean Patton, Caitlin Cook and more. There’ll probably be a surprise or two, because every great comedy show always ends its run with Aziz Ansari or Jerry Seinfeld or someone, just to stick it to the people who decided to not go.
8pm, Splitty, 415 Myrtle Avenue, Clinton Hill, $5

COCOA IN THE CITY: NYC CHOCOLATE MAKERS
Got chocolate on the mind? Makes sense to me, chocolate is great. Maybe you want to know all about chocolate, on top of eating it at any opportunity. In that case you should head to the Brooklyn Historical Society tonight, where food historian Sarah Lohman will chat about the history and production process of chocolate with a panel of chocolate makers involved in every step of turning a cocoa bean into a chocolate bar. Plus, of course, there’ll be samples for you to chow down on.
7pm, Brooklyn Historical Society, 129 Pierrepoint Street, Brooklyn Heights, $12

TANIA BRUGUERA AND DREAD SCOTT: POLITICAL ART IS UNCOMFORTABLE KNOWLEDGE
We live in a pretty fraught era politically, so it’s no surprise there’s plenty of political art to take in at the moment. Two political artists, Tania Brueguera and Dread Scott, will be chatting about the how they see their art as a way to fight police brutality and the defamation of immigrants, which you might have heard have been in the news recently.
7pm, Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Prospect Heights, $16

SARA SCHAEFER AND FRIENDS
Sara Schaeffer (of MTV’s Niki and Sara) is back in town from Los Angeles, and rather than only try to rely on only her jet lagged wits to entertain you, she’s getting a little help from her friends. It just so happens those friends are some really funny comedians, like Daily Show creator Lizz Winstead, 2 Dope Queens’ Phoebe Robinson and YouTube champ and Fusion’s Akilah Hughes. We should all be so lucky to have friends like this.
10pm, Union Hall, 702 Union Street, Park Slope, $10

YELLING AT THE SCREEN: JINGLE ALL THE WAY
Just because a movie is bad doesn’t mean we should shoot it into the sun, the way some
people suggest we should. There are other ways of to enjoy it, like watching comedians tear it a new one as you all watch it together. Halyards is getting in on the fine tradition of ripping on a movie while it plays by unleashing comedians like John Bilancini, Gideon Hambright and Sam Bourne on Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad’s Christmas flop Jingle All the Way.
8pm, Halyards, 406 3rd Avenue, Gowanus, FREE
