BK Top 5: The best things to do tonight, from Burning Man sex stories to barely legal wrestling

You’re curious how it all works. via Flickr user Christopher Michel

Wednesday is here and that means fall is here too. Well, fine, I guess that’s just the way it’s gotta be. Fortunately for us all, the first day of fall has some great stuff going on, as found on the Brokelyn Events Calendar. So put on your sweater or your hoodie, get out there and have some fun. Oh hey wait, actually leave that crap at home, it’s gonna be like 70 degrees at night.

WRESTLING WEDNESDAY
For a certain class of wrestling fan, the 90s were where it was at. Not for the Attitude Era, not for the brief window when WCW was watchable, but for three simple letters: E.C.W. Revel in all the hardcore, mind blowingly violent action that ECFuckingW put together as you watch Barely Legal, the organizations’s first-ever pay-pay-view, while DJ UnblinkingEar spins some tunes in support of all the hardcore action.
9pm, Nitehawk Cinema, 136 Metropolitan Avenue, Williamsburg, FREE

EMPIRICIST LEAGUE #16: THE HIDDEN DNA OF NYC
A great thing to do at night, before you go to bed, is go to an event where you’re forced to think about all the germs and other microscopic organisms living in New York City. So go ahead and go get yourself some nightmares as the Empiricist League presents some lectures from learned folks on subway microbes, flu germs that will soon be rapidly making their way around your offices and bars and Gowanus Canal uh…stuff.
7:30pm, Union Hall, 702 Union Street, Park Slope, $10

HARRY POTTER TRIVIA
Do you know who Harry Potter’s best friend was? Know what a horcrux tastes like? Do you know which chav what nicked Harry’s magic beans? Can you tell I haven’t read any Harry Potter books yet? If you actually have read the books and know the answers to what would be real Harry Potter trivia questions, head on out to trivia tonight and win, I don’t know, a sorting hat I guess?
8pm, Henri on Fifth, 279 5th Avenue, Park Slope, FREE

SEX ON THE PLAYA
Every year, thousands of people go to Burning Man. Some (most?) go there and bone like wild animals. Tonight, you can hear their stories, along with stories of people who destroyed their relationships at the annual desert art fest. Just thank your lucky stars it doesn’t come with an added “Smell-O-Listen” feature.
8pm, Over the Eight, 594 Union Avenue, Williamsburg, FREE

LEARNING TO DIE IN THE ANTHROPOCENE
What’s scarier to a soldier than actually going out there and fighting a war? For returning veteran and now author Roy Scanton, it’s the specter of climate change. Despite having fought in Iraq, Scranton came back and was so freaked out by rising sea levels and global temperatures that he’s devised an entire guide on how to live and die (mostly how to be comfortable with the death of our civilization) in the Anthropocene era in which humans behavior has had a massive impact on the environment. Don’t miss what’s sure to be both and interesting reading and the feel good night of the year at powerHouse Arena.
7:30pm, powerHouse Arena, 37 Main Street, DUMBO, FREE
