Well, we made it, everyone. We were spared the wrath of Hurricane Joaquin, and not only that, our lack of total panic has been rewarded with some pretty freaking nice weather this week. How best to celebrate? Well, if you look at the Brokelyn Events Calendar, there are plenty of cool things to do. These five recommended here though, are the bonafide best things to do tonight in Brooklyn, so put on a light layer (without no rain boots) and haul yourself to one of them.
“ACTIVISM ON FILM:” CHISHOLM ’72: UNBOUGHT AND UNBOSSED
Before there were Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton, before Barack Obama and Jesse Jackson and before there was even Geraldine Ferraro, Brooklyn had a black female politician who ran for president. That politician was Shirley Chisholm, and you can learn all about her historical presidential campaign all the way back in 1972 with tonight’s documentary screening at the Brooklyn Historical Society, the place you go for Brooklyn history.

FEAR OF DYING BY ERICA JONG
With Fear of Flying, Erica Jong covered what women were thinking, back in an era no one else would talk about it. People are talking about what women want more these days, but Jong is back to talk about what it’s like to be a woman in the 21st century with Fear of Dying, which is a callback title but also one that describes the book well, since it’s about a woman in her 60s dealing with changes in your life as you and everyone around you succumbs to the inevitable ravages of age.
