Have you ever wondered what it would be like to own a license plate that once belonged to the B54? Yearned to use the very same plastic recorder a third grader left behind on the 2 train in 2007? Harbored a desire to use the hand sanitizer some Transportation office worker ordered nine extra bottles of? Well, now’s your chance: the MTA is auctioning off unclaimed, used and and excess items that have ended up in their offices over the years, and bidding is open NOW.
There are a number of enticing items up for grabs, like household goods, toys, books, cell phones and sporting goods people have left on buses and trains; used overheard projectors that ostensibly once outlined the benefits of the 1992 fare hike; cubicles, desks and deskchairs; and, weirdly, a number of forklifts. Do you want these things? Of course you do. A forklift always comes in handy.
Bidding is open to the general public now, and the full list is online; feel free to peruse at your leisure. And if you’re down with the left-behind goods, you have until this Friday to mail or fax in your best bid. Yes, MAIL OR FAX. E-mail has not made its way to the Metropolitan Transit Authority, ladies and gentlemen.
