Life hack: Score $1 trips to NYC area beaches all summer

The beach is great for those who can get there. Sans car or patience, it can be tough, though, but at least this summer there’s a life hack worthy deal which is cheaper than a MetroCard swipe. Ride-sharing app Skedaddle is offering a promotion every Saturday through Labor Day of $1 round trip bus rides to one of seven different beaches in the tri-state area. It’s a sweet deal so long as you’re not super opinionated regarding which beach you go to each weekend – the schedule is preset and the deal only applies to one Skedaddle-chosen beach per Saturday.

Skedaddle, which is an app, markets itself based on the idea of doing what Lyft and Uber do but for destinations beyond the city. It’s like public bus chartering (they also offer a password protected private route option). The app is a bit conceptually hard to understand,  mainly because of the added feature of setting your own pickup time. There’s no cost minimum but there is a passenger per route minimum of 10 warm human bodies.

All beach deal trips are still open to more passengers (there’s a maximum of 55 or so seats). You’ll be picked up in Manhattan (departure points range from Harlem to the LES), with one exception (noted below) in the early morning (8am) and brought back to the city in the mid-afternoon (3pm). Here’s the Skedaddle summer Saturdays $1 roundtrip schedule, which is organized really confusingly on their website:

June 17: to Atlantic Beach
June 24: to Jones Beach
July 1: to Robert Moses
July 8: to Sandy Hook Beach
July 15: to Long Beach
July 22: to Point Pleasant
July 29: to Long Branch (this one departs from Williamsburg! Pickup is at 346 Graham Ave.)
August 5: to Atlantic Beach
August 12: to Jone’s Beach
August 19: to Robert Moses Beach
August 26: to Sandy Hook Beach
September 2: to Long Beach

The $1 roundtrip deal is also being offered for beaches in the Boston area, for those of you who have plans to visit Beantown this summer.
