The Diamond
3 Franklin St. between Quay St. & Calyer St.
Greenpoint
(718) 383-5030
What is it: This cozy nook version of a brutopia is a bit off the beaten path, but it’s worth the quiet walk from your usual Greenpoint spots on Manhattan Ave. for some serious beer knowledge.
Why we love it: The more you look around this small, colorful beer haven, the more interesting decorating choices will pop out at you, like the painted face of Michael Landen, or the bathroom walls entirely covered in a seriously impressive collection of cassette tapes. Elite without being elitist, The Diamond will have you wondering what you missed and coming back for more.
Who to bring: A beer lover–or supporter–who appreciates quiet confidence over flashy know-how. A fan of Queen, The Doors, or other jukebox classics who loves to rock but is out of their “Don’t Stop Believin'” phase.
What to order: You’ll be surprised by the eclectic selection between eight rotating taps, one cask and 35 bottles/cans. The uncommon choices may be overwhelming at first, but the menu, divided into Sessions, Middleweights and Strong brews, is pleasingly organized for the connoisseur and noob alike.
Diamond fun fact: As the Gore Mountain ski gondola at the back of the bar may hint at, The Diamond organizes the occasional ski trip for those who love the drink but are also coordinated. Also, there’s a shuffleboard!
