Prospect
545 Fifth Ave. (between 14th and 15th Streets)
Park Slope
(347) 596-6826
What is it: This classy new arrival to South Slope boasts reclaimed wood and the kind of atmosphere where you’d want to sit around and make a little love to your drink. When the weather’s nice out, check out the bi-level backyard.
Why we love it: The ambience and rotating roster of craft beers are enough of a selling point, but that backyard space is going to be in high demand once spring drinking arrives. This spacious Fifth Avenue watering hole lets you hunker down with a drink without landing in your neighbor’s lap.
Who to bring: Prospect feels like the perfect first impression for any skeptics of South Slope and what it has to offer. With an atmosphere and beers that would be a hit in Manhattan or Williamsburg, it maintains the low-key character of the emerging neighborhood. Bring your neighborhood snob friends who think they have all the best bars in their own stomping grounds.
What to order: The bar, opened by Irish ex-Pats, has a fully functioning kitchen with a brunch menu. We’re always partial to the English/Irish full breakfasts, but there are other standard Irish pub favorites, like shepherd’s pie, curry chips, and, of course, burgers. And since they’re Irish, their selection of brown liquors isn’t too bad, either.
Prospect fun fact: Prospect is brought to you by the owners of Harefield Road and Matt Torrey’s in Williamsburg, as well as South’s and the 11th Street Bar in Manhattan, so it’s safe to say they know their way around a bar.
