We’re going to punk (rope)… you up!

Anyone in America can go to a gym, or jog a trail or lift some milk jugs in their garage. We here in Brooklyn tend to demand something a little more… creative in our fitness routines. Like kickball… and aerial trapeze. Here’s a new one for you to try that takes boutique fitness to brag-worthy heights. Take a classic school-recess activity, add loud punk music and frenetic games and what do you get? Punk Rope! It’s a radical combo of the borough’s ingenuity and its dedication to make everything more fun than you thought it could be. And we’ve got your chance to get a taste of the class for free, along with a free starter pack of punk rope paraphernalia—if you are the lucky winner at the RAFFLE OF THE CENTURY tomorrow night.
Punk Rope holds classes every Wednesday night starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Greenpoint YMCA, with more coming soon to the Prospect Park YMCA and the Park Slope Armory. Students jump, play, sweat and rock their way through the workout session that founder (and instructor) Tim Haft describes as “like yoga, only way different — louder, faster, themed and completely chaotic, but always fun.”

It’s sort of a mix of the whimsical fun of schoolyard recess with the aerobics of a boxer in training and the adrenaline of three-chord power thrashing. The starter pack we’re raffling off contains about $80 worth of goodies, including jump ropes, DVDs, pins and a CD.

In case you think these classes aren’t hardcore enough, at least one of the instructors is member of the Gotham Girls roller derby team. If there’s anything a roller derby girl is sure to give you, it’s a good workout.

And for added brokester cred, the Wednesday night classes are followed by a happy hour with cheap booze at The Gibson (Bedford and N. 11th).

The First Annual Brokelyn Charity Ball will be held June 10 from 7 to 11 at at Night Owl in Williamsburg, 160 N. 4th St. at Bedford Ave. Coming? Let us know by RSVPing in the Facebook page, where you can also see all the other fine prizes.
