As Galaxy Collectibles turns its final page, at least there are cheap comics

Merchandise will be flying off the shelf faster than a speeding bullet. Via Here’s Park Slope.

We’re all having trouble making rent these days. Times are hard, and they’re not getting any easier, especially for Galaxy Collectibles in Park Slope. The 7th Avenue comic spot will be closing its doors on March 31 for reasons that we know all too well. As manager Robin Buckwalter told us over the phone, “It wasn’t really working out.” But at least you can get one last benefit out of this: cheap comics.

It’s not a story about the failing economy, it’s not part of a narrative about an ever-changing Brooklyn, there was no sudden downturn. It’s just a fact of life, and therefore a fact of business: sometimes it just doesn’t work out.

Of course, no store closing is complete without a final fond farewell. From now until next Sunday, there will be slaes throughout the entire store from buy one, get one free deals on paperbacks to 20-50% discounts on toys.

But it’s not all bad, comic enthusiasts won’t be left Galaxy-less, and the children of Park Slope won’t have to make do without some extremely important throwback superheroic knowledge. In fact, they won’t have to travel much farther down the Slope to partake in aisles upon aisles of Galaxy’s comic books, posters, T-shirts and statues – their locations at 429 5th Ave and 6823 5th Ave will remain open, as they seem to been faring better.

So come in and support 7th Ave Galaxy Collectibles in their last days. They may have not been the stuff of comic shop legends, but at least they didn’t live long enough to see themselves become villains.
