Add some color to your weekend with Saturday’s Comic Arts Brooklyn

It’s like they took your life and made it art! via Facebook

You love comics and want to do something cool this weekend, but you’re short on cash because you blew all your money on comics bills. Well we’ve got something FREE for you! Presented by Desert Island, Comic Arts Brooklyn is a comics festival in Williamsburg that offers something for everyone, whether you want to talk about comics, buy comics or just look at them. Comic Arts Brooklyn has a slew of artist-heavy panels at the Knitting Factory (361 Metropolitan Avenue), our favorite is the one celebrating City of Glass‘s 20th anniversary, with Paul Auster, Paul Karasik, David Mazzucchelli, and Art Spiegelman. Other talks that look cool include “The New Generation: What We Like” panel, which shines light on comic art’s best up and coming artists, and a lecture by Bone author Jeff Smith.

At the same day, Mount Carmel Church (275 North 8th Street) and Mishka (350 Broadway) will open their doors for people who want to buy comics or look at comic art. Mt Carmel will have works by dozens of artists filling both its floors for viewing and books available for sale and signings. Mishka will host the Heather Benjamin Art Show followed by a reception at 8PM. Mt Carmel, The Knitting Factory, and Mishka are all free but if you have five bucks to spare, you can attend a screening of Dash Shaw and Limited Animation at Spectacle Theater on Friday, or attend the after party at Union Pool’s back room on Saturday.  So grab a friend and head on down to any one of the festival’s events.
