A holy day indeed: National Doughnut Day! Where to get free doughnuts

Don’t pick at it!

Doughnuts: miracle food or more-than-miracle food? Wherever you fall on the “doughnuts are great” scale, the one thing we can all agree on is that they should be celebrated nationally. Oh hey, and look at that, there is a day to do that, and it’s today. So, how are our local and chain doughnut purveyors celebrating? Various delicious ways.

Over at Dough (448 Lafayette Avenye, Bed-Stuy), every purchase enters you into a raffle that gets the winner four free doughnuts per week, for a year. Holy crap, a year of free doughnuts. That’s heart-stopping in the metaphorical and the literal sense.

If you’re more into vegan doughnuts, Dun-Well (222 Montrose Avenue, Bushwick) will give you a free cake doughnut or doughnut hole if you buy an espresso. This intrigues us, this…cake doughnut.

If you’re not near Bushwick but still need your self-satisfied vegan doughnut fix, you can also run to the Cinnamon Snail truck, holding it down until 3pm on Park between 46th and 47th Street, where they’ll be giving out free doughnuts until they run out

Doughnut Plant, of the LES and Chelsea Hotel, are giving away this perfect, Simpsons-esque cake doughnut

On the corporate side of things, Dunkin Donuts will give you a free doughnut with the purchase of a beverage. Any beverage, not just a coffee. Choice is good, eh?

Speaking of “eh?” Candian doughnut dudes Tim Horton’s will also give you a free doughnut (or as they call them in Canada, “dough pucks,” true story) with a beverage purchase. But you need to print this coupon and bring it with you, because Canadians love paperwork.

Southern-fried doughnut slingers Krispy Kreme, working out of their last New York outpost in Penn Station will just give you a free doughnut, drink purchase be damned. This is true in all of their stores except the ones in Connecticut, proving conclusively that Connecticut is the worst
