After last night’s subzero temps, a garden stroll isn’t likely high on your activity agenda today. But don’t let a little wind chill stop you from visiting the Brooklyn Botanic Garden; they’re open today and offering free admission from 10am to 4:30pm.

The gardens are usually closed on Mondays, but they’re wishing Washington a happy birthday by giving you a gratis chance to hang out with all those lilacs and peonies that have been in hiding since September. And while today’s weather might not be the best for outdoor wandering, feel free to check out indoor exhibitions at the Steinhardt Conservatory, like the South African bulbs in the Warm Temperate Pavillion and the special Visions of Nature exhibition featuring plant-ey artwork done by students and teachers in last year’s Continuing Education art classes. We won’t blame you if you decide to hide out in the orchid collection ’til April.
