We’re taking the Love Train to these free R&B shows

The O'Jays, back in the day.

How could these Monday night shows not be a blast? Tonight, Keyshia Cole and Lyfe Jennings kick off the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series at Wingate Field in Flatbush.

The rest of the lineup tilts heavily old-school, with artists including Teena Marie, Jeffrey Osborne, Anita Baker and the O’Jays next Monday. (You know they sang Love Train, didn’t you?) The series is hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, (he of official proclamations), and it runs every Monday night at 7:30 through August 24,  Caribbean Night with Sean Paul. BYO lawn chairs. Lineup and more info. here.

To get to Wingate Field, take the 2 or 5 trains to Winthrop Street—5 runs rush-hour only—and walk 2 blocks east.

Granted, being from Flatbush is a state of mind, but these days, folks near Wingate Field identify themselves as residents of Wingate, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, or Crown Heights South.
