The rent in Williamsburg has been making us more nervous than ever for the neighborhood’s cool spots, and Time Out New York reports our worry is well-founded. The owners of Trash Bar have announced that Williamsburg prices are as dive bar/venue combo unfriendly as you’d imagine and they’re expecting to close soon.

While they haven’t given dates, Trash Bar’s booking manger said they’re currently only setting up shows up to March and are planning a going away party. He said their block has changed drastically in the last four years and their rent would quadruple if they stay. It’s hard enough to pay your rent in Williamsburg when you’re a normal venue, but when you’re one that’s charitable enough to offer an open bar with every show admission, your days will eventually be numbered around here we suppose.

All hope for  isn’t completely lost, though; they may eventually relocate to a more affordable area like Bushwick. But with Glasslands AND 285 Kent AND Death By Audio AND Trash Bar gone, we have a feeling we’ll be hearing a lot more construction than music in Williamsburg from now on.
