SATURDAY
10am-4pm: the volkswagen traffic jam drives into governors island w. a classic car show, spectator judging, kids’ activities, a beer garden, food vendors, djs, raffles, more. free.
11am-3pm: let’s fly a kite! bring your own or make one (free materials provided while they last) at the first brooklyn kite festival. brooklyn bridge park’s pier one, free.
2pm: bring a sandwich to share at jon friedman and cupcakes take the cake’s ‘delicious sandwich social and cupcake picnic‘ at prospect park’s picnic house lawn
9pm: ‘saved by the bell house‘ returns! be a student for the night at the second annual bayside high summer dance. music courtesy of ’90s cover band the bayside tigers and djs in both rooms. $12-15 admission includes a free drink, with $3 from each ticket benefitting the aspca. 11:59pm: so bad it’s bad. kings county cinema brings the turskish star wars to spectacle. $5.
SUNDAY
3-8pm: bring a bag of clothes to trade/donate at the bushwick food coop. $5 suggested donation gets you in plus free local organic food at the bbq and live bands. brooklyn fireproof.
3-8pm (+ 9/11): the third ‘kings county cookout‘ at east williamsburg’s lady jay’s offers $5 bbq plates (entree + 2 sides) and live tunes from morgan o’kane and daddy long legs
5-9pm: the desk set fires up the grill with literacy and hosts the second sunday summer books bbq at pete’s candy store. $10 gets you a plate of food and proceeds go to various charities.
7pm: the crappy cinema council watches crappy movies and makes fun of them. this month’s theme: sequels/remakes. public assembly, free.
