This weekend: Dumbo arts, mini-zine fest, free museums

FRIDAY
7pm (thru 9/29): doc. strongman, about stanley ‘stanless steel’ pleskun, the strongest man in the world at bending steel and metal. stan and director zachary levy in person tonight. brooklyn heights cinema, $10.

8pm: house of yes’s epic skybox aerial and variety show features refugees from vegas, trannies from broadway, real live musicians and 3-d dancing girls. $10.

9:30pm: smiths/moz tribute band the sons + heirs play union hall, $12.

thru sun: the annual dumbo arts festival features indoor and outdoor exhibitions, open studios, literary events, performances. free.

thru sun: 90+ chorerographers and dance companies perform at the 11th annual dumbo dance fesival. white wave, brooklyn bridge park and fulton ferry landing. free/$10 sugg. don.

thru sun: the 11th annual coney island film festival screens flicks (including the warriors) at sideshows by the seashore, the new york aquarium, and the coney island museum. $6+.

SATURDAY
get free admission for two to museums during smithsonian magazine museum day — brooklyn museum, intrepid, morgan library + museum, rubin museum of art, the skyscraper museum, new york and brooklyn historical society, more (registration req’d).

8pm: comediennes arden myrin and lisa delarios get their always fun ‘party machine‘ on at union hall. tonight: guilia rozzi, jared logan, chaz kangus, matt mccarthy, joe mande and adira amram + the experience. $5.

9pm, 10:30pm: stick around for both: sweet soubrette and the ukuladies play back-to-back shows at jalopy, $10 each.

SUNDAY
2-6pm: 20 competitors bring their best to huckleberry bar’s first annual sangria competition. $10 to judge/sample.

2-7pm: more than 20 writers and comic artists show their work at the third instalment of pete’s mini zine fest. pete’s candy store, free.

8pm: taste pies sweet and savory at bubby’s brooklyn’s 8th annual brooklyn pie social. $5 and a homemade pie get you in.

    Hi guys, thanks so much for posting our event at Pete’s Candy Store! However, unfortunately, Pete’s Mini Zine Fest is postponed until next Saturday, October 1st, due to inclement weather.
