The creepiest vintage ads of all time

picture-364If this link hasn’t made it to your Facebook page yet, take a few minutes to check out Retro Comedy’s collection of 15 disturbing ads that absolutely, definitely, would not fly in today’s comparatively tame cultural environs. You have to wonder whether so many U.S. retailers would be tanking if it were still acceptable to pitch shotguns as Christmas presents for every member of the family or sell “safety” razors by showing a picture of a beaming baby taking one to his cheek. The copy for a Pitney-Bowes postage machine asks, “Is it Always Illegal to Kill a Woman?” That was probably a crime even in the 1960s, but who knew that human remains on toast were such a delicacy for children back then?
