In his first 100 days in office, FDR did… a lot, too much to list here. Now we have a president who isn’t just trying to dismantle what’s left of the New Deal, but is also doing a pretty bad job of implementing his evil agenda. Although the latter is comforting, let’s not forget that Trump has already threatened to bomb North Korea, actually bombed Syria and Afghanistan, expanded ICE’s deportation priorities to include more immigrants than before, declared a new war on drugs, tried to ban Muslims from entering the country twice, and tried to take away healthcare from millions of Americans. Oh, and he golfs a lot.

That said, there are ways to resist. Hell, you’ve already done it for 100 days! Read all about it: (more…)

Earth Day is this weekend, which is a great opportunity to remember that the President and his allies either think that climate change is a Chinese hoax or are too concerned with generating profit for massive corporations to care that we’ll all be wearing full-body heat repellant suits and /or living in underwater communes soon if they don’t do something about it. This week brings the Climate March, small, local meetings, a few sign-making events, and plenty of ways to make the world a better place. (more…)

taxes

They also pay taxes, which the president… maybe doesn’t? Does? Who knows! (Gaby Del Valle/Brokelyn)

Tax day is looming on the horizon, and I mean, it kind of sucks to have to send your money to a government that will spend a lot of it on bombing people and on Paul Ryan’s health insurance, but keep in mind that your tax dollars also provide plenty of necessary social services for people around the country (and around the world! That’s great!).

That said, some people–i.e., the president of these United States–has a history of um, maybe not paying taxes? Or of definitely hiding something, which is why he never released his taxes, and maybe what he’s hiding is worse than the fact that he doesn’t even pay taxes. Anyway, get your taxes filed ASAP, come out to these local activist events, and on Saturday, top it all off with the Tax March.

Democrats have been losing seats for years, and a Trump presidency should be the time for a leftist resurgence. This week’s events include a fundraiser for Democrats out West, who need support now more than ever before, as well as rallies and protests, fundraisers, letter writing events and a few happy hour specials and parties that will let you support a good cause (and your fellow Americans) with a drink in hand. But remember: direct action is always the best course of action when possible, and nothing sends a message like thousands of bodies on the street defending their rights!

If you keep up the hard work, maybe Paul Ryan will actually blast Papa Roach from his car one day—this beautiful New York Times screenshot is, unfortunately, Photoshop, but someday the image of Ryan listening to “Last Resort” as his life’s work falls apart will exist in more than just our dreams. Direct action doesn’t always mean large protests. Subway fares are going up again, and plenty of New Yorkers can’t afford yet another fare hike. If you have an unlimited, be sure to swipe it forward today when someone asks! And remember: the NYPD lied when they said no one can get deported for fare-beating (people can be, and they are). This week includes plenty of ways for you to join the #resistance, from small acts like giving someone a swipe to larger demonstrations, and everything else in between. (more…)

We’re officially more than a month into Donald Trump’s presidency, and though there have definitely been plenty of challenges (terrible cabinet nominees, an uptick in deportations, an increase hate crimes across the country, you name it), the resistance continues, from small community meetings to (some of) the speeches at the Oscars.  This week offers plenty of opportunities to get involved and march forth. This week in anti-Trump activism in NYC: Not my President's Day edition

Let’s get a few things straight: #resistance should obviously mean more than Tweeting “hey, stop that” at the president, but it doesn’t exclusively mean attending every single rally and march outside Trump Tower, either. This week, we’ve compiled plenty of ways for you to get involved in grassroots activism at the most vital level, from letter writing to fighting against climate change. Local organizing may not be sexy, but someone’s got to do it (and that someone is you!). (more…)

This week in anti-Trump activism in NYC: Resisting President Agent Orange

(Gaby Del Valle / Brokelyn)

Busta Rhymes called Donald Trump “President Agent Orange” on stage last night at the Grammys before reminding us to #resist, and do you really want to go against what he has to say? Without further ado, here are 40+ ways to get informed, get organized, and get involved this week–with a few parties thrown in for good measure. (more…)

This week in anti-Trump activism in NYC: Know your rights (and party for them too)

If Trump’s electoral win and the Patriots’ somehow Super Bowl victory can teach us anything, it’s that sometimes the bad guys come out on top–but only temporarily. Two weeks have passed since the inauguration, but the constant barrage of covertly racist executive orders, extrajudicial decisions and bad tweets means the #resistance is alive and well. Here’s our latest roundup of anti-Trump events and rallies happening this week—plus plenty of parties, fundraisers, and other opportunities to let off some steam. We’ll keep updating as more come in.
