When a reader asks for tips on the cheapest way to do this or that around town, we like to open it up to everyone. There are always a few of you with some great ideas on throwing that cheap dance party, and all the neighborly helpfulness makes everyone feel good. Well, today, we came across a request for cheap services we couldn’t resist, and it wasn’t even directed here. FiPS sent out a call from a reader looking for the cheapest dry-cleaners in Park Slope: “I’m broke, but I don’t want to be dirty! Any ideas?” The dirty brokester’s call has gone unanswered so far, so we put it to you to help her out: Any suggestions for cheap dry-cleaners in the Slope? Comment away.

Have you ever done a Google search for the term “Brooklyn blogs?” It turns up a modest 26 million results. That means roughly 10 blogs per resident of our fair borough, which, to be honest, doesn’t sound too far from the truth (this humble reporter is guilty of contributing to at least four himself).

Find your very own Santa at the BK Holiday Meatup

Holidays. Nog with two straws. People skating hand-in-hand. Sickeningly cute couples huddled for warmth behind a frosted coffee shop window. It’s all enough happy winter romantic goo to make you want to vomit. And you know damn well you want to be a part of it. Unfortunately, December is a notoriously crappy time to meet new people to date, what with everyone’s attentions all on parties and family and such. Calling all single Brokelynites—we want to hook you up! We proudly present the BK Meatup (meat market + meetup) that we’re co-sponsoring on Wednesday Sept. 30 along with our fave digisphere partners: FuckedinParkSlope (FiPS) and Brooklyn Based.

One quiet night a couple of weeks ago, I was pumping away on my sewing machine in my apartment in Bed-Stuy when my neighbor, Stephanie, knocked on my door to ask if I could hem a skirt for her. She took out a bag from Cookie’s, the children’s department store on Fulton Street, and proceeded to lay out all the makings of a Catholic school girl’s uniform: knee socks, hair ribbons, a pleated skirt in a girl’s size large.

Her explanation? The guy she was planning on seeing Saturday night had requested this particular getup for their rendezvous. (more…)
