1. No matter your feelings on the loviest holiday, we can all agree: your ex was the worst. Head to Syndicated for an Erase Your Ex Double-Feature of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. (Friday & Saturday, Syndicated, $5)

2. Get fit while finding—or rejecting!—love at Just Friends: The Chillest Valentine’s at a climbing gym, with live music, chocolates, and tandem climbing routes. (Friday, Brooklyn Boulders, $22)

3. Turn the love outward at the Bushwick Love Party, a charity fundraiser and kickin’ dance party with DJ sets by Chew-Fu, DJ Pony, and ILLspokinn. Proceeds go, via the 108 Lives Project, to earthquake sufferers in Phulping, Nepal. (Friday, Fine & Raw, $15) (more…)

The weather and snow are real issues the city is still dealing with this week, but the growing homeless population is something that is going to take longer to fix. In the meantime, you can help some of those homeless people stay warm this winter, and get some free sweet arm muscles out of it. Brooklyn Boulders is partnering with Hoodies for the Homeless through Feb. 20: drop off a new or gently used hoodie at the climbing gym and get a free day pass, or half off a day pass and gear rental. If you’re a member already, you get an additional guest pass for your hoodie. And you’ll need those climbing skills to get over those huge snow mounds that won’t go anywhere for awhile. (more…)

As one of our contributors went over while putting fall on blast, as the weather gets colder, overeating due to large holiday meals really starts to ramp up (by the way don’t forget about all these holiday desserts to buy in Brooklyn and restaurants serving said large meals). What comes after that is usually a series of attempts at and lies you tell yourself and others about getting fit after New Year’s, but our question is, why wait? Not on the lying we mean, but on the attempts at fitness, because Brooklyn Boulders is throwing open their doors for an orgy of free climbing action over Thanksgiving weekend. (more…)

A few years ago, we stepped into a climbing gym for the first time as third wheel on a friend’s date. Since then, we’ve become obsessed with the sport, dedicating multiple evenings, weekends and vacations to it. There’s something about the combination of physical strength and mental challenge that makes climbing the perfect workout. (more…)

Looks action-packed.

Looks action-packed.

Not content with just being a place to get a good workout without being around a bunch of aggro bros talking about reps, Brooklyn Boulders is now expanding into the exciting world of cinema. Considering how good they are at providing kinetic entertainment, we’ve got a feeling their sedentary effort will be fun too, and if you think so you can find our tomorrow night at the premiere at their first ever movie, a documentary following one their first volunteers around his home country of Turkey. Best of all, because you’re reading Brokelyn, you can do it for half-off and get your ticket for just five bucks. (more…)

Admit it, you’ve totally watched Ninja Warrior (or the watered down American version) on cable and thought, “I could tooootally do that.” Well now’s your opportunity to try it and be humbled as an audience of actually fit people look on, because this weekend Brooklyn Boulders will be hosting their own Ninja Warrior-style obstacle course, Lava Monster. Oh, now that you’ve got the chance to prove you’re a ninja warrior you’re suddenly busy? Convenient. (more…)

With the warm weather transitioning into lower digits outside volleyball at Pier 5 won’t be a copacetic way to keep yourself moving and fit. Colder weather might make you want to hibernate and accumulate a nice layer of fat under our sweatpants and black slacks, but you can combat this by keeping a smidge in shape with some of Brooklyn’s most wallet-friendly indoor options. Depending on the class, trade in your Lulemon see-through yoga pants for some respectable workout or dance gear. Now repeat after us “jeggings are not work-out clothes.” (more…)
