Ditch the pumpkin for some cheesecake this Thanksgiving. via Junior’s

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a person in possession of good taste in desserts must be in want of a pie to bring to Thanksgiving dinner. Well…actually, it’s a truth ALMOST universally acknowledged. Because there are those among us who, for whatever reason, do. Not. Like. Pie. My mother is one of these people who shuns apple and pumpkin pies for anything else she can find when Thanksgiving dessert time rolls around, even if the options are limited. And while I firmly disagree with the pie-averse, I see no reason why they shouldn’t have equally yummy sweets to conclude this national day of gluttony. Luckily, there are a number of Brooklyn bakeries offering fantastic pie alternatives for Thanksgiving. (more…)

Oh, you thought renting an apartment was all a numbers game, did you? Or maybe you thought it was just literally a game. Either way, you’ll be pleased to hear that the churning corporate machine of city real estate has definitely found some humanity this week. Goodbye, low-pixel jpegs of plastic tile. Hello, high-fidelity photographs of sun-washed hardwood. We’ve got everything from Bed-Stuy to Flatbush to Crown Heights to Bensonhurst. We’ve got 2, 3 and (almost) 4 bedrooms. In short, we’ve probably got what you’re looking for. (more…)

Can you believe it’s only (almost) June? We skipped spring and scooted right into summer weather, But you can’t just start lazing around, kiddo! Your lease is up soon. You gotta move, remember? As per usual, Brokelyn is making it easy for you. This week’s apartments feature beautiful, sprawling boxes to call home, in locations we never thought we’d see again for a brokester’s price range. Let’s check ’em out, shall we? (more…)

The MTA isn’t exactly on what anyone would call a winning streak. There’s the frequent train breakdowns and delays during rush hour, the weekend L train shutdowns, the fare hike and the sense that they’re an enormous faceless government entity that doesn’t care about puny human existence. Now on top of all that, the Brooklyn Daily reports that cat-lovers in Bensonhurst are claiming that the MTA constructed a wall in front of a feral cat colony, blocking the animal lovers’ attempts to feed and rescue the cats.  (more…)

If you’re lucky enough to have escaped the dreaded wintertime move, now is a great time to call it quits on the old place and sign a lease on a new one. The weather’s warmer, the days are longer and house-party season is heating up. Perfect time to warm a new house—if you’re a trained party host like some of our own, that is. This week’s apartments feature barf-friendly hardwood, cocktail-worthy kitchens and architecture that just screams “Let’s go to my bedroom and make out!” (more…)

Face it: if you haven’t yet figured out how to crest the stupefying tsunami that is New York rent on your own,  you’re gonna have to contend with roommates. And I’m gonna tell Hillary Clinton that she should just live with Hilary Duff. Because they can be progressive Brooklyn moms together! Anyway, for those of us who aren’t future heads of state or working on Lizzie McGuire: the Rock Opera (unconfirmed), we’ve got a bunch of cheap spots for you to plan your spring renewal / next potluck. (more…)

Happy 2015, y’all, and welcome back to the polar vortex. With the weather being what it is, and rent prices being what they are, there’s no use denying it: it’s time to start drinking. Wait, I mean thinking—about your next move, that is! Awkward segues aside, this week’s apartments are anything but cringeworthy. What they lack in amenities they make up for in a money ease. Okay, I know I said I was finished with awkward segues. But we found you a place that comes pre-furnished, so lay off. Everything’s business as usual cost-wise, with wallet-friendly rent prices that won’t make you regret all those dollars you spent over the holidays. On Flatbush! On Bed-Stuy! On Dyker and Ditmas! (more…)

Who has time to think about getting health insurance when you’ve got a life-changing New Years’ move to prepare for? Hey, relax: Brokelyn’s here to make it easy for ya. We did the dirty work of culling the market for the most reasonably-priced and desirably-situated spots in the borough. This week’s apartments remind you of how cheap and awesome the south-ier parts of Brooklyn are. Don’t worry, you can drink there, too. (more…)

Happy December, guys. If you haven’t moved already, then you’d better do it quick before the temperatures reach full vortex. Also, trust me when I say that nothing sucks worse than dragging a bed-frame through the snow. So! This week’s apartments feature three-bedroom steals, two-bedrooms priced like one-bedrooms and general merriment to give you a little Christmas cheer about your real estate prospects.  (more…)

Hey guys, I’m your substitute realtor for today, because Sam is unavailable. While I can’t give you Sam’s noted Canadian wit or keen eye for real estate, I can at least find you some places that won’t break your paycheck into pieces and snort it while demanding more more MORE. It’s just for a week, but long as I’m here, I found you some cheap places to live in Fort Greene, Bensonhurst, Crown Heights and a mysterious place in Sunset Park. They’re also all 2-bedrooms somehow, which I didn’t notice until now. Anyway, let’s go hunting! (more…)
