Score big at these Brooklyn bars having Super Bowl parties

Even if you’re not from Washington or the great state of Colorado (JOHN ELWAY WILL RISE AGAIN!), this Sunday’s Super Bowl warrants your attention. Be you diehard football fan, winner of your fantasy league, advocate for the legalization of marijuana or just a gosh-darn American, there aren’t too many days a year when one can yell and eat and drink for hours (in daylight! in PUBLIC!) and watch the Red Hot Chili Peppers wrestle with a bajillion dollars worth of production values…plus, Bruno Mars. The commercials are conversation-starting, the wing sauce is all over your hands, and your apartment is simply too miserable a place to celebrate in. So do what we all do best this Sunday: go to a bar!

Teddy’s Bar and Grill
96 Berry Street, Williamsburg

Allegedly the neighborhood’s oldest bar, Teddy’s has the pleasing aura of a Brooklyn-style Cheers — there’s lots of wood-paneling, and you may well know everyone who works there (it’s a small team…). This Sunday, the bar will be showing the SuperB on three big screens. Corona will be the featured special, and a game day menu will include some “seriously good wings.” This is a good spot to take tinier groups who won’t mind a little side-socializing with their football — Teddy’s is a friendly, friendly place. Any items from their brunch menu are HIGHLY recommended (e.g., the Crab Cakes Benedict and Thick-Sliced Amaretto Challah French Toast are each under $10).

The Knitting Factory
361 Metropolitan Avenue, Williamsburg

There’ll be no cover this Sunday for gamers at The Knitting Factory, another Burg-favorite bar-slash-performance space. The Factory will be showing the game in stereo surround — on two massive projection screens, as well as four flat screen TVs. Those looking for a table should plan to get here early (doors open at noon). This space will likely be a packed, rowdy way to enjoy the game — but drafts on special and the conspicuous lack of food menu ought to make this one of the cheaper evenings out.

Mullhollands Bar
312 Grand Street, Williamsburg

Twelve HD plasma TVs and twenty-two beers on tap gives them some cred to their claim as Brooklyn’s number one sports bar. So do wings that rival Red Star’s. Their menu includes Mini Corn-Dogs ($8.00), a house Chili ($9) and award-winning wings ($7- $12 an order), which come in a Bloody Mary flavor!

Heavy Woods
50 Wyckoff Avenue, Bushwick

Claiming “a major in whiskey, a minor in tequila and mezcal,” this bar knows how to party in style. Doors open at 6pm for a blow-out, with game day specials that include buckets of Budweiser for $12 and a fine selection of New Orleans-style BBQ.

Red Star
37 Greenpoint Avenue, Greenpoint

Often toted as one of the borough’s favorite sports joints, Red Star in Greenpoint is a football fan mecca. This expansive bar offers eight different flavors of wings (including a two-time winner of the “Best Wings in Brooklyn” competition — Raspberry BBQ), and fifteen beers on tap. Though they’re doing first-come, first-serve seating on game day, those Brooklynites still frantically planning an at-home shin-dig can inquire about the Red Star catering packages, on sale now.

Keg and Lantern
97 Nassau Avenue, Greenpoint

The Keg and Lantern is another mainstay. Equipped with eleven flatscreens, this bar plays host to a whole spectrum of Greenpointers — from the old hats to the new kids on the block. On Super Bowl Sunday, the bar will serve brunch (as usual) from 11am-4pm; the menu includes medium-posh favorites like the Kobe Beef Hot Dog, the Crab Cake Sandwich or the Quinoa Veggie Burger. The bar is also running a takeout wings special, for away fans: if you order by Saturday and pick up Sunday, you can get fifty wings for $25. Booze-wise, the Keg will honor its usual Sunday schedule and offer 2-for-1 shots 7pm until late.

Mission Dolores
249 4th Avenue, Park Slope

In preparation for the game, Mission Dolores (self described as “that weird bar at 4th and Carroll”) will be hosting a tailgating party 4pm-6:30pm, complete with proprietor-grilled hot dogs. There will be pitchers available throughout the day, and the game will be projected for maximum viewage. This dark, open space contains several pinball machines, for those fans requiring their own commercial break entertainment. Note also that Mission Dolores is famous for its craft beer selection, which changes month to month; most drafts fall between $4 and $7.

The Bell House, 149 7th Street, Gowanus

Floyd NY, 131 Atlantic Avenue, Clinton Hill

The “Super Kick-Off Party” at these three sibling bars each start at 5:30pm, and each is FREE. Wings and chili are COMPLIMENTARY at half-time. As Sixpoint Beer and Floyd Beer Cheese host this event in conjunction with the sister bars, your party preference boils down to location, location, location — at any of the venues, fans can enjoy $4 Sixpoint pints and Floyd Beer Cheese out the wazoo.

The Vanderbilt
570 Vanderbilt Avenue, Prospect Heights

The Vanderbilt will host its first Super Bowl Party ever this Sunday. Doors open at 5pm for a 6:25pm kick-off, and $35 gets you in the door and access to an all-you-can-eat buffet. Seriously. Passed around appetizers include oysters, wings, and meatball sliders, with chili, cornbread and BBQ chicken the designated entree. At half-time, there’s going to be a WHOLE HOG WITH CHIVE PANCAKES. And somehow after all that, there’s still dessert. The V boasts two TVs plus a projection showing the game in the back room, and most beers here (from a wide, crafty selection) run you about $6. For the fancy (and very, very hungry) fans.

Freddy’s Bar
627 5th Avenue, South Slope

Not only will Freddy’s bar in the Slope feature a 12pm-7pm “happy hour” including $2 PBR and HighLife AND $3 for EVERY tap beer, but this Sunday marks their annual in-conjunction-with-the-Super-Bowl chili cook off. This means that enterprising chef winners will be announced at half-time, at which point there’s free chili for all. Full sound, HD TVs, and no cover.

Mullanes Bar & Grill
71 Lafayette Avenue, Fort Greene

Neighborhood favorite Mullanes will be drawing the crowds this Sunday with a customer raffle — among the giveaway prizes are a 32” TV. Besides this, the bar will offer its traditional weekend brunch fare. Most delectables (including French Crepes and a Quiche du Jour) will run you under $15. They also have a consistent $6 beer and a shot special.

South 4th Bar
90 South 4th Street, Williamsburg

Though this year’s chili cook-off happened last week, our sometimes HQ is still partying for the Super Bowl. In addition to showing the game and serving chili made by last week’s chili cook-off winner, South 4th will be raffling off prizes and providing extra competition in the form of their seventh annual mustache competition. And as per usual on Sundays, Build-your-own-Bloody-Mary (for $5!) starts at 10am.

Beast of Bourbon
710 Myrtle Avenue, Bed-Stuy

This enormous emporium of meat, whiskey and draft beers invites you to get into “BEAST MODE,” which is either an endorsement of Seahawks’ running back Marshawn Lynch or just a play on their name. Either way, watch the game on their giant screen and enjoy BBQ (the most American food, for America’s game) and drink specials.

The Woods
48 South 4th Street, Williamsburg

The Woods isn’t traditionally known as a sports spot, but who in their right mind could say no to $1 pre and post-game Bud Lights and Yuenglings, shots for every fumble (in a cold, possibly snowy game) and 1/2 price halftime deals?

Hunter’s
213 Smith Street, Cobble Hill

Some of you will be watching the Super Bowl for the commercials. Others celebrate it for the food, and if that’s your M.O., Hunter’s is the place for you. In addition to showing the game, they’ll be serving Sriracha and umami wings and choripan sliders.
