Amidst a sea of artisanal pizzas, ramen burgers, and gluten free chia bowls, Williamsburg has left few stones unturned when it comes to creative dining. Luck for you, you have us. And we are here to put you onto some otherworldly shit: the Reuben Egg Roll.

That’s right. A Reuben sandwich in. An. Egg roll.

If you’re an avid fan of the hot, melty American classic – often stuffed to absurdity with tons of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing — *ahem* we’re looking at you Carnegie Deli — the classic combo on Rye takes on a new form at The Regal Diner and Cocktail Bar and will absolutely give you life, even into the wee hours (serving food until 3am and cocktails until 4am on weekends) of some of your not so “pinky up nights. Just think about the handheld fried goodness coming your way after hitting local bars.

The quaint, cozy and modern joint, which opened this past January at 163 Hope St. in Williamsburg, offers the ingenious creation on its “starters” menu, although really, at just $8 for two Reuben egg rolls, the rest of the menu can probably take a seat (but not really because they also have things like chicken and waffle sliders and French onion grilled cheese).

While the mouthwatering meal is still a take on the traditional Reuben sandwich, what makes it unique is that the ingredients are artfully placed in a pastry egg roll and deep fried. If you love pastrami, this dish won’t disappoint. The meat is heaven and the savory crunch adds a crazy, delicious touch. Dip that in the delectable house thousand island sauce, a tasty ranch-style concoction, and you have yourself a mouth party.

The city’s famous Katz’s Delicatessen, a Manhattan institution since 1888, gets the rep by many locals as New York’s best pastrami sandwich. But The Regal’s Reuben rolls have the advantage of not resulting into a mess when chowing down, as the meat and ingredients are conveniently placed in a compact, handheld device.

Despite all of the other offerings The Regal so artfully put in front of me, including the Fried Burrata, the French Onion Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and the Grilled Branzino — all the vision of executive chef Seth Levine — the Reuben Egg Rolls are what stuck to the brain and pleased the palate most.

The Regal also offers a hefty drink menu, many of which would definitely go well with the popular appetizer, as well as an array of brews at affordable prices, especially during happy hour, which includes $7 cocktails, a $7 beer and shot combo and a mega $1 oyster deal. On the weekends, you can get nice and boozed up at brunch with its bottomless brunch special: $30 gets you unlimited cocktails and your choice of entree.

So take a break from the city’s longstanding delis and traditional pastrami sandwiches and head over to The Regal, and chow down on these Reuben Egg Rolls instead. The hip eatery that serves savory dishes at a late hour certainly beats ordering food from various shitty Chinese establishments.
