When you’re shelling out upwards of $12 for a movie ticket, spending an extra $7 on popcorn just doesn’t seem reasonable. That’s why most of us do the smart thing and bring our own candy, popcorn and beverages, sheathed neatly in our purses and bags. Today, Consumerist reports that due to an upswing in movie theater crime around the country, Regal’s security measures may tighten to include routine bag-checks for moviegoers upon entry.
The real question is: does this mean we can’t get away with outside snacks anymore?
Don’t get us wrong, we’d much rather be safe than sated. But sneaking food and drink into the movies was one of the few remaining elements that made the big-screen experience worthwhile (and remotely affordable).
Ticket prices may also increase with the addition of security detail, according to Consumerist. As it stands, a regular admission movie ticket at either of Brooklyn’s Regal locations in Downtown Brooklyn (106 Court Street) and Sheepshead Bay (3907 Shore Parkway) costs $14.75. Can you imagine paying more than that, let alone paying that amount at all, and having to buy all your concessions at theater prices?
Egads. All we can say is, a Netflix subscription and microwave popcorn is starting to look a whole lot more tempting.
