Oh, it’s what you do to me: Delilah’s giving out free cheesesteaks in honor of National Cheesesteak Day

We’ve got to hand it to ‘em: Philly did a pretty good thing when they invented the cheesesteak. Thinly sliced beef, melted cheese, sauteed onions and peppers, if you’re trying to be healthy…you might even say it’s a sandwich worth celebrating. Luckily, the holiday fairies agreed when they created National Cheesesteak Day, and to tout the noble feast, Delilah’s Steaks is giving away their cheesesteaks for free all day on Saturday.

It may come as no surprise to some that a day is devoted to elongated cheeseburgers, but for those in doubt, legend has it that National Cheesesteak Day began on March 24, 1994 when four high school seniors shared a greasy sandwich and really, really liked it. For reasons we won’t question, their mutual mastication somehow grew into a “legitimate” (see: illegitimate) holiday that many continue to commemorate to this day. (No, really, there’s even a creepy Facebook group about it.)

Regardless of National Cheesesteak Day’s origins or legitimacy (technically, it fell on Thursday, but we’re not splitting hairs here), no good meat-and-cheese-loving Brokester can pass up a free cheesesteak, so when our friends over at Greenpointers found out that Delilah’s (55 McGuinness Blvd. at Engert) will be providing the glorious sandwiches for free tomorrow (Saturday, March 28, 2015) we couldn’t help but pay it forward. The generous establishment even has a vegetarian option for nonbelievers. Can you believe it?!

Delilah’s is open from 11am to 10pm, so you have plenty of time to get your grease on tomorrow, but you’ll probably want to start working on different customer disguises now.
