Michelle Obama: ‘We were so young, so in love, and so in debt’

Yes, Barack’s mandate really is that large.

Michelle Obama pounded a beer can of democracy and crushed it against her head at last night’s DNC with a message that money isn’t everything, and gave a lot of credence to our suspicion that she is the best person on the planet at this current time in history. (And she really made a case for the right to bare arms AMIRIGHT??). This line hit close to home and sent the informercial audience in Charlotte into cheers: “For Barack, success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.”

Oh, and she told us the future president once Dumpster dove for a coffee table. There’s hope for you freegans yet! If you haven’t watched this thing, do it; even our sarcastic asses can’t help but admit it is damn near inspiring.

And also: the dems are coming out guns a-blazing for gay marriage now? Throw in Betty White talking to an empty chair and this might be the most entertaining convention since conventions actually involved politics and not just speechifying.

We did a little informal surveying here yesterday, and it’s no surprise that Brokelyn readers feel pretty confident keeping Barack around for another spin; some of you even saying you’re feeling better off now than you did four years ago.

One commenter named Mstew said he went from barely making ends meet with a temporary job to having a full-time technician gig, and has even paid off some of his student loans.

“Other than that weighty mental burden, I feel well centered these days. I would go so far as to say that, on occasion, under the exact right circumstance, I have even felt… patriotism,” he wrote.

That is, of course, the “young, so in love, and so in debt” patriotism of the Obamas, not the noun-verb-9/11 cudgel we were beaten with during the Bush years. Wait, is it possible that patriotism is cool now? A post-ironic America could be a nice place to live.

I don’t know if I can support Obama after he neglected to consult the Russians before getting us involved in a major war in Afghanistan 11 years ago.

I also liked how she really took on her husband’s continuous unmanned drone bombings of countries we aren’t even at war with.

She really said all the right things regarding all those Yemeni civilian deaths and apologized for the killing of three Americans including teenager Abdulrahman al-Awlaki.

But who cares about unaccountable targeted killings of Americans when we got the White House beer recipe!?! Whoop whoop!

    Who cares about
