Maggie Gyllenhaal says Park Slope is ‘Sesame Street’ plus other random links

Picture 22We’re on a somewhat reduced publishing schedule this week, but check back for a New Year’s guide, a feature on how to make booze, prison-style, and various other fun bits and bobs that we deem worthy of taking off our new skates to post. There are a bunch of them today in NYMag, where we learn that Maggie Gyllenhaal drinks coffee from Gorilla, buys cheese from the BKLYN Larder and calls her Park SlopeĀ  block “Sesame Street.” (We’ll be monitoring FIPS for analysis.) She does not recommend cheaping out on contractors. Elsewhere in the mag, which has its Where to Eat 2010 issue out today: a Manhattan recession dining guide, and Destination, Brooklyn, a guide to “scruffy-chic backyard dining,” a movement apparently embodied by our friend Owen, who went to Vinegar Hill one night and is now the accidental spokesmodel for this trend. Speaking of models, TimeOut/NY has an addictive slideshow on 100 party dresses under $100, which happens to include a number of looks for amply proportioned gals, which is nice to see in a spread that isn’t so designated. But so far our favorite fashion statement this week is the “suspended at the Coop” totes and t-shirts at a blog called Definitive Ink.
