Boy, oh, boy, October just keeps getting better. It’s as if the Fun Gods—I don’t judge your religion, so don’t knock mine—looked down at all the fun we weren’t having in September and said, “Oh, okay. Here you go. Here’s some fun.”

Next week’s fun comes in the form of HONK NYC!, a week-long street music festival extravaganza with an emphasis on brass and percussion. Bands from around the globe perform in parks, bars and other public spaces across metropolitan New York. And as luck—or the Fun Gods—would have it, we rounded all the performances that are happening in Brooklyn!

Paprikata
Monday, October 12
Loosie Rouge (91 South 6th Street)
10pm
FREE

Brazilian-inspired band Paprikata kicks off the first of the borough’s events with a night of free samba music in Williamsburg! Put on your comfiest shoes, because who knows when you’ll get off the dance floor.

Opening Potluck with Performance by FunkFurst
Tuesday, October 13
Gemini & Scorpio Loft (e-mail for exact address)
7pm
FREE with contribution

This one’s a ticketed event if you show up empty-handed, but free if you contribute to the potluck. So that’s a no-brainer: save $20 by bringing a dish, then soak up the punk-disco brass funk sounds of Funkfurst while you rub shoulders with all the other bands participating in HONK NYC.

HONK NYC’s 3rd Annual Dance Party
Wednesday, October 14
Littlefield (622 Degraw Street)
7pm
$10 in advance, $12 at the door

This dance party in Gowanus features not one but a whopping 5 live bands (!!) so it makes sense you have to shell out a couple bucks. And even so, it’s just $10. Featuring Frank London, Spanglish Fly, New Creations Brass Band, Les Villains Chicot and Brooklyn United Drumline.

Environmental Encroachment and Hungry March Band
Friday, October 16
Big Sky Works (29 Wythe Avenue)
11pm
$10

Boasting an immersive “environment of sound,” Chicago-based Environmental Encroachment takes over a multidisciplinary arts space in Williamsburg. Then, the Coney Island-born marching band Hungry March Band follows with sonic, brassy tones and plenty of spectacle. This is a night not to be missed, even if it means forking over a Hamilton.

Rubulad and HONK NYC: The 2nd Annual Brass-Tastic Blowout
Saturday, October 17
The Wick (260 Meserole Street)
9pm
$20, or $15 if you donate to the HONK NYC Kickstarter

This event is the biggest splurge of the festival, but it’s no surprise what you’re getting for your money: a party co-produced by Rubulad, featuring not 5 but nine, nine brass bands to bleed your eardrums dry! Look forward to performances by Sxip Shirey & His JANK Band, Batala NYC, AFRO-BLOCO, Underground Horns, Drumadics and more. Tickets available at the door.

Drum Workshop with Marcus Santos
Sunday, October 18
Pearl Street Triangle, Dumbo

HONK NYC touches down in Dumbo near the Archway for a free drums workshop with Brazilian percussionist Marcus Santos! You, too, can play irresistible rhythms to get people up on their feet and dancing like there’s no tomorrow.
