Sit, stay, drink: Dog-friendly bars’ best deals

Pour that pooch a pint! Find the best bar prices to benefit both you and your pup

We’ve told you about the cheapest places to dine outside, bars with free grub, and the best BYOB spots, but what love does BK have for your pup? Instead of shivering while watching Fido circle a section of sidewalk for 20 minutes (or paying a dog sitter to do the same), try this: we’ve compiled 16 bars that welcome patrons of both the two and four-legged persuasion, and listed their best prices for brokesters. If you’re an owner looking to spend quality boozing time with your canine, or a dog lover jonesin’ for a fix, add these spots to your must-frequent list. Disclaimer: We make no guarantee that your pooch won’t be walking you home at the end of a a long evening.

WHEN THE SNAUSAGE BAG IS EMPTY
These venues keep tails wagging with free behind-the-bar doggie treats.

East Williamsburg’s Second Chance Saloon (659 Grand St, btwn Leonard St & Manhattan Ave) is a great spot to watch a game and – bonus – drinks are on the house when it’s your birthday. Not too far away in Williamsburg is the Brooklyn Ale House (103 Berry St, at N 8th St), which doesn’t just provide nosh for your furry friend: complimentary peanuts populate the bar, and the venue also offers free WiFi. Also in the ‘Burg: Luckydog (303 Bedford Ave.), where Milk-Bones are displayed with flair in a gumball machine and there are 20 beers on tap (happy hour runs M-F from 2pm-7pm and includes $1 off all drafts and $3 well drinks). Cobble Hill’s Angry Wade’s (224 Smith St, between Butler and Douglass streets) supplements their fully-stocked bar and beer specials with Buck Hunter and board games, and if your pup finds popcorn palatable, there’s an endless free supply.

WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE PLAYING BALL
Entertain yourself, so Fido can see your mad game skills in action

Bar Great Harry (280 Smith St.) in Carroll Gardens has pinball machines and offers two-for-$5 on all Yuengling drafts, well drinks and select bottles and cans of beer from 2pm-7pm Mon-Fri. Williamsburg gaming mecca Barcade (388 Union Ave., between Ainslie Street and Powers Street) will keep your hand-eye coordination up to snuff (at least, until you’ve polished off your second round of drinks) and slashes $1 off beer and well drinks Mon-Thurs from 5pm-8pm and 2pm-8pm Fri-Sun. Floyd (131 Atlantic Ave., between Henry and Clinton streets) in Brooklyn Heights is home to a 40-foot bocce court, which is free to play, plus the bar offers $1 off all wine, well drinks and drafts from 5pm-7pm weekdays. Columbia Street Waterfront District’s Moonshine (317 Columbia St., between Woodhull Street and Hamilton Avenue) has a pool table and all drafts are $3-$4 from 4pm-7pm Mon-Fri.

WHEN YOU WANT TO HOWL AT THE MOON
If karaoke — or simply singing along to an eclectic jukebox selection — is your game, these spots are clutch (Tip: when Fido chimes in, you’re off-key).

Ginger’s Bar (363 Fifth Ave., between 4th Street and 6th Street) in Park Slope hosts a boisterous karaoke party every Thursday night, and a few of its many happy hour specials (5pm-8pm Mon-Fri and 2pm-8pm Sat-Sun) include two-for-one domestic beer and well drinks, signature cocktail specials, Tequila hot shots for $3.50 and Genesee Cream ale $3.50, along with free nibbles. Cobble Hill’s Boat Bar (175 Smith St, between Warren Street and Wyckoff Street) lays claim to an indie rock jukebox and a three-sided fireplace in front of which to croon, plus happy hour every day from 5pm-8pm ($3 drafts and bottled beers and $3 well drinks). Clem’s (264 Grand St., at Roebling Street) in Williamsburg has a classic-rock jukebox and happy hour every day from 2pm-8pm that includes $6 well drinks, $1 off all drafts and daily $5 beer-and-shot specials.

WHEN IT’S TOO COLD FOR A TRIP TO THE DOG RUN
Drink inside while Fido frolics in the spacious backyards behind these bars.

Williamsburg’s East River Bar (97 S 6th St, between Berry Street and Bedford Avenue) has an all-night happy hour special of beer and a shot for $5. The last time we were at Boerum Hill’s chill beer haven 4th Avenue Pub (76 Fourth Ave, between Bergen Street and St. Mark’s Place), we snatched up a freely-roaming Sheltie for a quick snuggle over our (aptly-named) Santa’s Little Helper brews ($2 off the usual price Mon-Fri from 3pm-8pm) – also, don’t miss the $4 Bloody Mary specials on weekends until 6pm. No-frills Carroll Gardens bar Court & Spark (550 Court St., between 9th Street and Garnet Street) boasts a Pétanque court out back and Monday Night Football food and drink combo specials (think: $7 for a pint of Yuengling and a bowl of chili or $6 for two hot dogs and a pint), but take note: for Fido’s safety, the owner asks that you leave him home on crowded Friday and Saturday nights. Greenpoint’s Boulevard Tavern (579 Meeker Ave) houses a pool table (free to play on Tuesday and Wednesday) and has $5 all-you-can-eat barbeque (veggie options included), plus happy hour runs until 9pm.. Quirky Gowanus dive Canal Bar (270 3rd Ave, btwn Union St & President St) has incredible drink specials that change daily (think: $3 drafts, $3 Blue Moons, $3 Jager shots, $4 Svedka vodka drinks) and you can bring your own barbeque to grill out back.

  1. Sycamore Bar & Flower Shop allows pups and has an awesome backyard for them to frolic about. Most people I’ve met out there like playing with the dogs, too.

  2. But if you, the person, want great beer, go to The Gate in Park Slope or Washington Commons in Crown Heights/Prospect Heights.  Both have lots of dogs and both have great tap lists.
