Words Sunday: Hosted by Patricia Spears Jones at Calabar Imports

Janice Lowe will start off the series on October 26 with a set featuring poetry and music. Janice is one of the co-founders of the legendary Dark Room Collective. Her musical theater work focuses on Black history and cultural representation. On November 2 Nigerian born Uche Nduka and Jacqueline Johnson, bring their sense of the global in the local with works that look both to and away from Africa. Rachel Levitsky, prominent feminist author and co-founder of Belladonna* and queer poet/activist Michael Broder present on November 9. Poet/teacher, Cheryl Boyce-Taylor whose Glitter Pomegrante series rocks Prospect Heights will be joined by Jason Scheiderman on November 16. And DeVeaux and Pardlo bring the series home and as with all of these poets-they have creative powerful bodies of work; have received major awards and often share their knowledge as teachers, critics and activists. Great writing will be served on Sundays from October 26 to November 30, 2014.
