Willard Hill LIVE at The Delancey!
Sep 24, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm| $10
True to the classic storytelling tradition of Hip-Hop, Willard Hill’s latest Sketches of Spain Street EP is a raw homecoming retrospective collection of self-rediscovery stories set in post-Katrina New Orleans. The project — both the EP and the free “Mixtape”– are the sum of three of the hardest years of Hill’s life. It explores the pain, hope, disappointment and the resilience that the effort to stay true to his [music] dreams brings. Hill searches every corner of the world for opportunity and grapples with trying to make peace with the life [in New Orleans] he had to leave behind.

With a melodic sound, Sketches of Spain Street takes on the “everything I’m not makes me everything I am,” and reels listeners in with a familiar story of homesickness for the hometown city that’s, well, changed. Steadfast in a genre all his own, the New Orleans Hip-Hop Soul artist blends original, repurposed, and borrowed musicality in the EP. The transitional, often jazzy grooves paint the backdrop for the neighborhood storyteller style tales back on the streets he once knew, offering profound dimension to the evolution of individual consciousness in for a self-made king.
