“What’s Up, Grim?”: Haunted Hayriders In Their Own Words – Book Release and Signing

Cornfield Abyss

“I love your chest hair, feed it to me for breakfast,” exclaimed the girl, merely ten years old, sitting on a hay bale before the embodied image of Death itself. The hay formed a bench upon a large farm wagon, pulled by a tractor through a field of long dead cornstalks in the brisk Autumn night.

“You got bacon? I’ll go with you if you’ve got bacon,” inquired a woman in her early thirties, facing the same hooded figure moments later.

These morbid exchanges are nothing out of the ordinary at this particular New Jersey haunted hayride, where Death meets their customers face to face, for a fee. Thousands attend the hayride every Halloween season to be spooked, to feel alive, and to heckle and taunt the delegates of their own demise.

Such reactions to the Reaper make up a new book of quotations assembled by Grim himself and their mortal collaborator, Adam Finchler. A New Jersey native, the Grim Reaper seemed thrilled about being able to document their own community:

“I’ve been going to the hayride ever since I was a kid, and I’m glad Adam finally encouraged me to write down these quotations. Now readers can “reap” the benefits of perusing these profound remarks, just as I have for countless Halloween seasons.”

The book is called “What’s Up, Grim?”: Haunted Hayriders In Their Own Words”. Those fearless enough to attend can pick up an autographed copy at Molasses Books in Bushwick on October 23rd at 8pm.
