Venezuelan Film Night: Nikkei presented by Lunes Populares

Inspired by the day of the week that movies are half-priced in most Venezuelan cities, LUNES POPULARES (Popular Mondays) is dedicated to showcasing recent releases of Venezuelan cinema. Screenings will include documentaries and feature films in various genres like drama, romance, comedy, action, etc. The VENEZUELAN FILM FESTIVAL IN NEW YORK is intended as a meeting place for the discussion and promotion of Venezuelan cinema currently being developed. This event is co-hosted by the Festival del Nuevo Cine Venezolano, Caracas Arepa Bar and Santa Teresa Rum.

Nikkei (Documentary, 80 min, 2011)
Nikkei is a documentary about the identity of the Japanese who migrated to Latin America. It is the story of my grandparents, their trip from Japan to Peru, the media campaign against their race, World War II and the hope for a better life in Venezuela.
